Hoping for a rap up by 1630 on the Sunday. more information contact myself or Ben R Nurse -email-

Good day to you all.
It would be great to get some idea of what people would like to work on at Burton. So please do post any suggestions you may have as this will help us deliver the best possible training for you.
many thanks

Ben has posted a comment elsewhere suggesting that non hotshots try and make the Burton weekend.  This is an ideal opportunity for anyone that wants some help or advice, to talk to and be guided by some of the more experienced helms and crews.

Apart from the bar bill, it need not even be too expensive as I believe there is onsite camping - perhaps this can be confirmed Rich?

You also have a new website section all of your own, which can be found from our home page: Training and Non Hotshots!  I think Pete is going to try and help get this going.

There is already some content that seems to set the tone of what may come - alongside the tips and advice we all seek, of course.

So its now down to you all - get stuck in and give Burton a try.  Send some training requests to Ben (by private message if you are a bit shy) and I am sure, weather permitting, it will prove to be a good weekend.

Pete and myself will be heading up to Burton again this year. Our biggest problem is our upwind ability. we are always lower / slower than those around us. However all points of sailing would benefit from some tuition so we will be happy with whatever the majority feel would be most beneficial.

Cheers,

Richard

I'll be coming along as well - have been looking forward to it for some time. As far as what to focus on, well honestly you name it!! Setting up the boat for the conditions with an explanation of what exactly you're trying to achieve with each of the controls. Then the race itself. So starts, upwind technique, spotting the shifts, better tacking, getting around the windward mark smoothly, downwind technique, spinnaker gybing, leeward mark rounding and I'm sure there's still a lot I've not even thought of. So, not much then!!

Frankly any advice gratefully received. We'll be happy to go with the flow. Any info on camping would be useful. We'd be aiming to get there Friday eve.

Cheers

Iain

Hi Iain, you should notice a new section for non-hotshots etc which Tony has kindly put up. I've spent a bit of time pestering my betters for info and I've sent Tony a couple of articles based on emails sent to me by Jason Lunn on Downwind gybing technique and also by Adam Kenny on upwind in a blow. Hopefully these will help a little on basic techniques. At the moment, I really don't think I'll be able to make the Burton trip, it would be immensely useful if you could write up the learnings afterwards and post them to Tony to put up on the site. Anything and everything will be useful.
Cheers
Pete

Hi there,

Apols - not able to come. But i normally reckon that a bit of thought on set up can pay big dividends. Having a game plan on specific controls

For example, how do you manage the relationship between between kicker and shrouds on flat water might prove a good focus for feedback sessions etc.

Soz not to be there. see you all at Carsington.
Cheers,

CW

On the non hotshots section there will be a Basic Set up guide (give Tony a couple of days to put it on the site) for getting your rig at the right angle for the right breeze. If possible try and get this work done before the training, it will save time and also will make all the other bits more meaningful once the boat is easy to sail. Definitely can't make the training, however hopefully Iain will try and write up a bit of a report afterwards and we'll put it up for all to see and learn. Cheers and have a great time

Done - Tony

Hi Guys
There are plans to do a session on basic rig set up in the evening. There will also be a session on sail controls.
The stuff posted in the training section is great but a demonstration can be off real value. So please do look it up and have a go before burton if you get the chance, but if not no worries.
Ben

you can camp on site the weekend of the event but the club would like to know numbers in advance. If you wish to camp of the Friday You MUST 'book' as if you don't then the club will be locked. at this point i do not know about the bar opening on the Friday night but it i am informed it will be open Saturday night

A note to those who are undecided whether to go or not - Ben has already helped me with a coulpe of issues by mail and phone - his style is very much a coaching, ie see what you are doing and help you to improve, accepting we all do things slightly differantly. If you can be there, you will benefit!!
I will send out mails to the Newbies that I know, Scott, Ian, Iain and Richard, plus a few more. Please spread the word to other 505 owners, whether they want to take on the likes of Ian, Andy and Charlie or improve their club sailing or just have a blast in a fabulous piece of kit without tears!!
Cheers
Pete

Thanks pete
Just a quick one guys, for those of you who are wishing to take part in the boat controls and sail controls session please bring and tape measure for your mast rake and a rig tension gauge for you shrouds and a way of adjusting spreaders.
many thanks

ok so it's now under a week away! Who is planning on coming down/up for it so we can get an idea of numbers?

Alot of work has gone into this to ensure everyone at every level will get alot out of it. Last year we had 22 5ohs turn out which was great, shall we look to beat that?! I hope so.

Remember the Ross Kenney Memorial Race is also being sailed this weekend, with Charlie and DC unable to make it and defend the title, it is anybody's!

Hope to see everyone there!
